SUBJECT: How to Attract Web2 Users to Web3: Effective Methods and Strategies.
At the core of every project’s development in the Web3 industry are the vision and goals of the team. It’s crucial to deeply understand what the project aims for, anticipate challenges along its path, and identify areas that require extra attention and effort.
In an engaging Twitter dialogue held on November 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM (UTC), we, GPT360, discussed key aspects of development with our partners. The central theme of our meeting revolved around a highly relevant question in the realm of Web3: “How to bring Web2 users into the world of Web3: effective methods and strategies.”
We are inspired by the opinions and ideas shared by our esteemed partners on this matter. We believe that our discussion will be beneficial and well-received by many users. Moreover, it provides fertile ground for contemplation, the creation of new strategies, and most importantly, a catalyst for reaching a new, untapped audience in the Web2 industry for our projects.

In conversations with our partners, we’ve discovered interesting solutions, strategies, experiences, and challenges when it comes to bringing users from Web2 to the Web3 industry. Here are just a few of them that you can explore here:
Mr.N, CEO of GPT360, Highlighting the Importance of Educating Web2 Users and Collaborating with Them:
“I would say that there is quite a large gap between Web2 and Web3 in many cases. However, Web3 definitely has some really important points, and areas in which Web3 is better than Web2, and one of them is particularly significant: security. So, by security, I mean the holding of assets, the holding of your data, and actually owning it. Not as something that can be deleted or otherwise lost, but truly holding it somewhere in the blockchain, on your wallet, or elsewhere. Many people don’t understand the value of it, especially those outside the Web3 space. They might think that they’re holding funds in their bank account, saying, ‘Yeah, I’ve got my funds there on my bank account,’ but they don’t realize that it’s only numbers on the screen and nothing more functional. And that’s very different from Web3. In these terms, education is even more important, and we must make attempts to describe the benefits of becoming a Web3 user to the worldwide audience, with really simple words, without any terminology — just really, really simple words”
Eratol, CMO of GPT360, Exploring Online Earnings from a Web2 User’s Perspective:
“Right now, there’s a really important thing happening, and GPT360 team trying to look at it from the viewpoint of Web2 users. We see something interesting in how they think about making money online. They’re looking more and more for different ways, like freelancing, blogging, affiliate marketing, selling things, and doing online surveys and tests for rewards. But they’re not getting into decentralization. Mostly, they’re scared of the unknown in the Web3 world, thinking of it like something dark, like the darknet.
I think if we try to show them the possibilities in DeFi, tokenization, and NFTs, and make it like a lightbulb moment, saying it can be safe, and there are secure projects that can let them earn way more than in Web2.”
Taylor, COO of Ruby Protocol, Sharing Challenges in Transitioning Users from Web2 to Web3 Industry Based on Personal Experience:
“The user education is definitely one of the keys. But you know, I mean, this is a funny experience. When we just launched the Ruby one, we dubbed it as a very user-friendly, user-centric wallet. However, from that experience, I learned that the real conundrum is that the incumbent systems, let’s say the Googles, the Mailgun, the Gmail, impose so many obstacles on Web3 companies. When you try to integrate Web2 and Web3 together, let’s say, like, you wanted to make a web 2.5 project or applications, it is very hard for those two ideas or ideologies to work together because they clearly have a conflict of interest.
From our building experiences, when we were onboarding users — and we were onboarding a lot of users at that time — we faced a lot of obstacles posed by the centralized powers. If we are really talking about how to attract Web2 users to Web3, I do believe the only way forward is to build Web3. I don’t think there’s a way around it because it’s not in the interest of Web2 companies to let the Web3 industry thrive.
I mean, maybe I’m speaking from a narrow-minded perspective. But from my own field experiences, collectively as a community, we need to continue to build infrastructures, continue to build different tools. This are very important, the notification tools are important, and the data storage protocol is extremely important. When we have all that, now we can finally talk about how to attract Web2 users to Web3.”
Cherry, CSO of XRenderAI, Shares Insights on Web3: Making it Understandable and Accessible for Everyone:
“So, we all know that Web3 is the next generation of the internet, right? It’s more decentralized, open, and ensures greater security for users, providing more control over their data and privacy. Web3 has the potential to revolutionize many industries, including finance, social media, and gaming. However, Web3 is still in its early stages of development, making it a bit challenging for users to transition to the new ecosystem. That’s why we are here to discuss new methods.
At XRenderAI, we strive to keep everything simple. We are working to make Web3 more accessible and inclusive for everyone. Our goal is to create a Web3 platform that empowers users to easily create and train apps. Leveraging the power of technology, we enable users to generate unique and creative NFTs without any prior experience in design or programming.
We are committed to simplifying things for users by making the interface more user-friendly. We are incorporating AI to attract users, making it easy for them to sell NFTs on our marketplace and seamlessly integrate with Multichain. This is what we believe we should do to ensure that people find it easy to access our platform.”
George, CMO of Zerosum, Sharing Solutions to Salvage the Play-to-Earn Concept and Attract Users from the Web2 Industry:
“Wish, oh, how I wish acquiring в Веб3 gamers was that easy. Well, to be honest, we’re not exactly play-to-earn creators; rather, we’re trying to salvage this concept. Let me circle back to Web3 games. I used to be a huge fan of Gods Unchained, Axie Infinity, but most of those users aren’t really gamers; they’re more like AirDrop hunters. They invest their time to get loot in the game, hopping they might come across some lucky NFT card to sell it for a profit. It’s like, no need for any serious gaming commitment. It’s not really about the true hardcore gaming experience.
So, how do we solve that? We’ve come up with a solution called tournaments, plain and simple. Speaking of Dota, the whole world is watching it because it’s a massive case study where like-minded people, esports enthusiasts, are watching and cheering for the emotions. We want to capture that special sauce in the gaming world to get users hooked on playing in tournaments.
Now, how do we really save play-to-earn? The biggest problem is liquidity. If the game is massive like Illuvium, they may have liquidity for a few more years, but eventually, they need to find new revenue sources. We want to change that. We aim to build something that goes back to the essence of gaming. To be a good gamer, you need a win rate higher than 51%. If it’s less, you’re a noob; if it’s more, you’re a good player in the long run.
In our tournament feature, we first teach gamers how to play Web3 games for free. Everyone is invited. But once they know how to play, we charge fees as low as $0.5 to $1 for them to compete for prizes ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The idea is to teach them to play games first, and only then do we introduce our revenue model. This model works well as we share fees with game studios, acting as a legit healthy middleman. We don’t even have a token; it’s pure utility. We connect gamers to rewards, and our hypothesis, still being tested, is whether it’s easier to teach a Dota 2 player to onboard, download MetaMask, understand gas, and sign a smart contract.
Those gamers could spend ten minutes learning that or just play one more “KATKA”, as we call it in Russian. It’s challenging; we’re literally paying for attention. Hopefully, our tournament system becomes a precedent or a significant case study, making Web2 users start talking about tournaments. We hope that regular folks, not necessarily esports enthusiasts, who haven’t invested ten hours in League of Legends or Dota, can still play 100 hours in some Web3 game, become better than others, and participate in tournaments. This way, we are providing liquidity from users themselves. We have a marketing budget to onboard them, but in the long run, the revenue model works quite well.”
